Report from the Ballina Week of Golf to the NSWVGA

Ballina Vets hosted their WoG during the period 21-26 July 2019. We were blessed with lovely weather Monday, Tuesday and Friday and feedback from our visitors was very positive. Thursday afternoon was heavy rain causing play to be suspended, unplayable until 1430 when the 36 hole event was terminated, the course still being unplayable. This caused some problems as the NSWVGA Awards could not be based on the advertised 36 hole event. However, in consultation with President Ian Vidler, it was decided to make the awards based on the most equitable basis, being the results of the 1st leg of the 36 hole event.

Tenterfield Mixed Championship 30th September - 4th October not to be sanctioned

This year's Tenterfield Mixed Championship will now not be sanctioned by NSWVGA nor will NSWVGA be providing any prizes for the event. This follows advice from the Tournament Director Bill Eastgate that Tenterfield Golf Club committee, when made aware that the event clash with the Armidale WOG, decided to press ahead with the event. This being contrary to long standing NSWVGA policy that events occurring concurrently must be separate by at least 500 km.

Ray Dukes is acknowledged as the finest golfer to ever grace the fairways at Leonay Golf Club and is an instrumental and pivotal figure in the Club's rich history. In addition to his golfing prowess, Ray also served admirably in many roles, including Secretary Manager and Head Green-keeper. The 'Ray Dukes Medal' was conceived in 2017 and is presented to a Club member in recognition of 'Outstanding Service'. Michael's Hole In One Tura August 2018

A very happy WOG Veteran Michael Bungey Queanbeyan GC who achieved his first Hole In One on the Par 3 153m Third hole at Tura Beach Country Club during the Far South Coast WOG last Friday. Witnessed by playing partner and NSWVGA rep Stu Dossetor. We saw the ball hit the green and then lost it only after searching to look and see it in the hole. Locals commented that it was not an easy hole to achieve a Hole in one. Well done Michael.

Important notice to Tournament Directors

Members like to see the timely placement of WOG results on the website. It has not been unusual for NSWVGA reps at WOG to be 'asked' why the results have not been placed on the web. To assist TD to meet players expectations we have developed a standardised format. See "WOG Results Template" under Policy/Guidelines tab above.

THIRD AUSTRALIAN OVER EIGHTY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

The Australian Over Eighty Golf Championship for Men and Women concluded at Harrington Waters Golf Club last Thursday. The Championship was played over 27 Holes. Nine holes played each day.
The Men's Champion was Arthur Shepherd from Bonville Golf Club with 31 stableford points, holding off last year's winner Ken Madden (Merewether) with 28 points.
The Ladies Champion was Betty Andrews (Kew Country Club) with 24 points from Mary Gleeson (Tallwoods Golf Club) with 11 points. This was the third year Betty had won.
In the net division local golfer Vic Winter from Harrington Waters, off a handicap of 34 won with 57 points from Ocean Shores golfer Ken Bradford (35) on 56 points.
The ladies net winner was Audrey Crow (36) from Forster-Tuncurry with 46 points pipping our very own Joan Fleming (32) with 45 points.
All the golfers commented on the excellent condition of the course and thoroughly enjoyed the three days of golf and entertainment provided by Harrington Waters. Members went out of their way to assist these elderly players, with at least one accompanying each group and others 'spotting' for any wayward balls. Most of the golfers tell us they will be back next year, health permitting.
The Club was indebted to the excellent support of our local community especially Anglican Care, Harrington Hotel, Manning Great Lakes Skin Cancer Clinic, the Mid Coast Automotive Group and Professionals Harrington.
